Under The Knife

A Poem | Samantha Steiner

Look what I would Do

To be beautiful and thin

I’m in a program to be cut open to begin

But my nerves are screaming,

“It’s not worth it!”

Is surgery the way to go?

I honestly don’t know

I don’t think I can do this

What if something were to go wrong?

I know I’m self-conscious

And seeking self-love

But there have to be other ways

Because this seems a bit ridiculous

They tell you it’s great

And worth the six months wait

I’m now doubting my decision

To get these five little incisions

To reroute this

And cut out that

Let’s make your stomach smaller

So your abs will be flat

But what if I give my life

To go under the knife?

Being thin may not be worth this
