I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder and ADD/ADHD in 2001 when I was about 14-years-old. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Then to add to the fun, in 2017, I was also diagnosed with PTSD. I do have other mental health diagnoses, but I can get into that later. I have a chronic pain disorder which can sometimes disrupt my life called fibromyalgia, but I try to make the best out of every day. I have also dealt with severe self-harm issues, so I can also relate to anyone who has struggled with these issues as well. Self-harm can be hard for some people to understand, and more often than not people, in general, are confused and misguided when it comes to this topic. It seems to run in parts of my family. I have almost 14 months of being alcohol-free.
I graduated from LTI as a medical assistant and spent years working in the healthcare field within various settings. As much as I loved working in the healthcare field, writing is what I love to do to more than anything in this world. It has always been my dream job. My grammar skills may be atrocious, but that’s okay because most of the time people are still able to get the gist of what I am trying to say by reading the entire sentence. 😀
The career path I chose may not be something that I can do forever, but at least I can finally say: I love what I do.
I have 12 years experience working with individuals who have mental or emotional disorders, as well as individuals who have intellectual disabilities. When it comes to personal experience with all of the above, my entire life has been dedicated to learning tough life lessons.
I am not here to judge anyone because I am not perfect myself. (As you can tell by reading my posts!) I want to be able to help others who have been struggling with a mental/emotional disorder or addiction issues. I want to help the people who love and care about someone else who has any of these things, or even people who are undiagnosed and are just having a hard time in life right now. I like to help other’s because I have been there too.
With as much as I like helping others, I am by no means a doctor or a therapist.
My goal is to help at least one person who is having a hard time. I also want to help others become knowledgeable about the subjects we cover on this site. I would also love to shine some light and help destigmatize Mental Illness, even if it is just a tiny bit.
