Time

Time

Poem By: Samanta Steiner

Things aren’t the way they used to be
And pretending that they are is not good for me
Flashbacks from the past
Rub the present in my face
Taunting me
Laughing and smiling
While reminding me
What time has stolen from me
Time can be kind and gentle
But it can also be cruel and deceiving
Freezing life in its place
Making things more difficult then they need to be
Making it feel impossible to get over these hurdles
And slide right into first place
Time can feel like it is speeding up or slowing down
And occasionally it feels like it’s stuck on rewind
Making you relive your worst memories
Over and over again
Pushing you slowly over the edge
I try to fix my mistakes
So tomorrow can be a better day
But it seems like I never learn from my mistakes
Because I keep doing the same dumb shit
Over and over again
For me time is my worst enemy
It does the opposite of what I want
Because when I need it to slow down
It takes on a faster pace
And when I need it to speed up
My minutes turn into hours
And when I need it to freeze
It skips ahead
Causing me to miss everything I was trying to savor
