My Last Day
Tomorrow is my last day on vacation, I’m in Ocean City, Maryland. I usually come down here every summer with my four children and boyfriend. We absolutely love it here. There’s just something about this place. I’m dreading going home tomorrow. I was here back in August, so this is my second time coming out here this year here. I usually have to deal with the kids arguing and being stressed out on vacation, but this time was much different.
This time we only brought two kids with because of how many people are allowed to stay in the rental. It was a lot more peaceful this time and this was a break that I really needed. My kids father passed away, just a little over a month ago (I’ll have a whole different blog about that; coming soon). With all of the grieving and stress the past few weeks, it was great to come here for a few days and leave that all behind. Reality will set back in once I get home tomorrow.
It has been so relaxing to sit outside next to the bay and just enjoy a glass of wine. As I sit and write this, I’m outside under the moonlight, listening to the sounds of the wind and the waves nearby; there’s no place I’d rather be. I walked along the beach today with my children and then just watched them as they played. It’s one of the greatest feelings to watch them having fun, especially for my daughter with the sadness that she has had lately from the loss of her father.
I do look forward to seeing my older boys tomorrow when I get back home. I wish they could have been here. We are staying with my boyfriends father, all expenses paid, but the rental agreement only allowed six people, so I had to leave two kids behind. Surprisingly they weren’t upset that they couldn’t come. They told me to go have fun and enjoy myself. I have been using FaceTime to talk with them and show them everything we’ve been doing. They are so anxious to see me tomorrow.
On the way home tomorrow we’re stopping at Rehoboth beach. It’s something we always do on our way home; one last stop for fun before it’s back to our everyday life. This Friday is Trick or Treat, so that’s something we all have to look forward to once we’re back home. I’ve been trying to keep the kids and myself busy to help keep our minds from wandering back to their dad’s last day. I’m going to turn in for the night and wake up early to enjoy every last minute before it’s time to leave.
